Co-Curious provides targeted professional skills development programs for writers from under-represented backgrounds and creates supported pathways to industry careers.

  • IN THE ROOM

    In 2022 Co-Curious embarked on a four-year partnership with Powerhouse, to develop five connected films by Western Sydney writers, using Co-Curious’ unique model of development and production, which supports writers to bring stories to life with their own sense of authenticity.

  • STORIES FROM ANOTHER AUSTRALIA - VICTORIA

    Supported by The Ian Potter Foundation, VicScreen and Screenrights Cultural Fund, the second year of SFAA saw two groups of four writers each develop a unique show concept, under mentorship of some of the industry’s most experienced creative talent, alongside professional development, writing and story room workshops.

  • On the Bright side

    On the Bright Side provided four female and non-binary writers from under-represented backgrounds with the opportunity to do a deep dive into developing narrative comedy series under the tutelage of Script Producer Kirsty Fisher. Each participant developed polished pitch documents and a script sample for a comedic series concept, with feedback on the concepts from Netflix via support from the Netflix Creative Equity Fund.

  • STORIES FROM ANOTHER AUSTRALIA - NSW

    Supported by The Ian Potter Foundation, Screen NSW and Screenrights Cultural Fund. In the first year of SFAA, six writers worked together to develop episodic television concepts under the guidance of award-winning writer/showrunner Liz Doran. The program included writing and story workshops, mentorship, professional development and mentorship opportunities.

  • NEXT GEN/ EPOCH

    In partnership with Belvoir, Co-Curious nurtured 12 writers and two producers from Western Sydney to develop their first Main Stage works for theatre through a series of dynamic writers programs. By creating lasting pathways for future generations of culturally and linguistically diverse writers, we are committed to permanently increasing the level of diversity in Sydney theatre and bringing about generational change.

  • BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

    Built on strategic partnerships with ABC Television and Emerald Productions, Behind Closed Doors supported the careers of eight Western Sydney writers while simultaneously developing a feature film anthology, which went on to become the acclaimed film Here Out West.

  • BREAKTHROUGH ONLINE

    An industry workshop and writer's group convened by Co-Curious by Zoom to keep writers connected to industry and to each other through 2020-2021. Industry practitioners, screen agency representatives and other guest speakers kept writers abreast of sector developments providing writers with support to continue to develop their work in a supportive environment.

  • LEAP

    A tailored capacity-building and career development program for 6 screen practitioners from under-represented backgrounds in Western Sydney, run through 2020-2021
